Not something I’ve noticed as I’ve not used Distiller for a long time, but I came across this article while searching for an answer to a Leopard based Distiller issue and it’s both interesting and seems like a huge improvement from the solution in Leopard (and earlier).
Saying that I don’t tend to see Distiller being used much anyway these days; Quark’s PDF system is now pretty good and you can export directly from any Creative Suite app, and in fact from pretty much any design focused app these days. Apple’s systemwide PDF exporting system accessed from the Print dialog makes a good job of it (albeit with restricted options 1) for most people’s needs, in the case of the app not providing it’s own option.
1. You can add an automator workflow to reduce the size of the normally huge files that this method produces, even adding multiple workflows with different compression settings. The workflows simply use the Quartz Filter in Automator which contains a decent array of PDF manipulation options.
